Welcome to the 511th Bomb Squadron website. I dedicate this site to my father, S/Sgt.William J. Doubledee, USAAF, s/n 15314863, and to the brave men of the 511th Bomb Squadron, 351st Bomb Group, 1st Bomb Wing, 8th Bomber Command serving in the European Theater of Operations during WWII. My father was shot down on the mission over Anklam, Germany, captured and became a POW.
My father died suddenly and unexpectedly on May 18, 1986. There
are so many things he never talked about, and so many questions left unanswered. I miss him very much. I hope this site helps the families of these airmen better understand what they experienced.
